Public Service Announcement Request

PSAs may be requested by community not-for-profit groups, organizations or individuals in San Juan County. Individuals are eligible if events they promote are not for profit. KLOI will air PSAs for public-sponsored events and not-for-profit fundraisers; art and entertainment events such as concerts; meetings, workshops, seminars, lessons and classes. KLOI may, in some cases, broadcast PSAs that provide information not oriented to events and activities. The PSA may run for up to two weeks, up to ten times per week. We cannot guarantee time, frequency or placement of the announcement.

There are some rules to be followed:

  1. After the 2 week airing period, the PSA may not be repeated until at least three months after the original broadcast.
  2. Since PSA requests take up to a week to process (editing, recording, and programming), please submit your request at least one week in advance of the date you would like it to begin airing.
  3. The PSA must be brief — under one minute, preferably around 30 seconds.
  4. The PSA must not be a “call to action” (Come on down!) or “inducement. (first ten people free!)”
  5. The PSA must not include prices.
  6. The PSA must not contain obscene or vulgar language.
  7. No announcements for political fundraising or candidates are permitted.
  8. The PSA may be rewritten by KLOI to assure these guidelines are met.

Here are some guidelines for submitting a PSA:

  • Include all the pertinent information: Who, What, When, Where, Why, How.
  • Use complete sentences (not just a list of details). Short, simple sentences are best.
  • No editorial comments allowed: the PSA must not imply that KLOI is taking any position.
  • Include concise contact information that can be both read and remembered easily (not several names and numbers, or complex URLs).
  • Please don’t use ALL CAPS.
  • If appropriate, add phonetic pronunciation, particularly with names.
